Lesson 3: How the Hybrid Course Works

How This Course Works

Leadership 101 combines self-paced learning with live interaction. That means some of your learning will happen on your own, when it fits your schedule, while other parts will give you an opportunity to connect, ask questions, and learn alongside other athletes.

Each week, a new module will become available. You do not need to complete everything in one sitting. Work through the material at a pace that allows you to actually think about what you are learning and, more importantly, begin using it in your everyday life.

Your Weekly Experience

Each week follows a similar rhythm. Knowing what to expect will make it easier to focus on the leadership concepts rather than wondering what you are supposed to do next.

Step 1 Learn Watch the videos and work through the written lessons for the week.
Step 2 Reflect Use your Leadership Journal and reflection questions to connect the ideas to your own experiences.
Step 3 Apply Try the challenges and leadership skills in practices, games, school, work, and everyday situations.
Step 4 Connect Use the live sessions to discuss what you are learning, ask questions, and hear from other athletes.
What You'll Find Each Week

The course is designed to give you more than information. Each part has a purpose and is meant to help you move from understanding leadership to actually practicing it.

Video Lessons Short introductions and explanations that help bring the week's leadership concepts to life.
Written Lessons Deeper explanations, examples, and ideas you can work through at your own pace.
Reflection Activities Opportunities to connect what you are learning to situations you have already experienced.
Leadership Journal Prompts Questions that help you think more deeply about the leader you are becoming.
Practical Challenges Simple ways to practice leadership outside of the course instead of only reading about it.
Downloadable Resources Tools and materials you can save, use, and return to throughout the course.
An Important Idea

Self-paced does not mean passive. You will get the most from Leadership 101 when you do more than watch the videos and read the lessons. Think about the questions, write in your journal, try the challenges, and pay attention to how the ideas show up in your life.

Live Leadership Sessions

Every other week, we will meet live on Zoom. These sessions give us a chance to move beyond the written lessons and talk about what leadership actually looks like in the situations athletes face.

Live Session Weeks 1, 3, 5, and 7

Live sessions are held every other Sunday. We will discuss key concepts, work through real situations, answer questions, and connect with other athletes taking the course.

If you cannot attend a session live, that is okay. Recordings will be available afterward so you can still benefit from the conversation.

How to Get the Most From the Course

You do not need to have leadership figured out before you begin. In fact, that is the reason you are here. You also do not need to agree with every idea immediately or have the perfect answer to every reflection question. Be willing to think honestly about yourself, experiment with new approaches, and notice what happens.

Leadership develops through repetition. A concept you read about this week might suddenly make sense during a difficult practice two weeks from now. A journal question might help you recognize a habit you never noticed before. A challenge might push you slightly outside your comfort zone. Those moments are where the course starts becoming more than information.

The goal is not perfection. The goal is growth.
