Lesson 4: Zoom Schedule and Expectations

Live Session Information

Leadership 101 is not just a collection of lessons to work through on your own. Throughout the course, we will also come together for live Zoom sessions where we can talk about the ideas you are learning and connect them to the situations you experience as an athlete.

These sessions are designed to be conversational and practical. We may discuss scenarios, work through leadership challenges, answer questions, or explore an idea from the course in greater depth.

What We Expect From You

You do not need to prepare a presentation or have all the right answers before joining a live session. We simply ask that you show up ready to learn, contribute in ways that are comfortable for you, and help create an environment where everyone can participate.

1
Arrive on Time Being ready when the session begins shows respect for the group and allows us to make the most of our time together.
2
Be Respectful Different athletes will have different experiences and perspectives. Listen to them with the same respect you want when you speak.
3
Participate in Your Own Way Speaking is welcome, but participation can also mean using the chat, answering a question, listening carefully, or taking time to think before responding.
4
Ask Questions If something is unclear or you want to explore an idea further, ask. There is a good chance someone else is wondering the same thing.
5
Limit Distractions Give yourself the chance to be present. When possible, find a place where you can focus on the conversation.
6
Support Other Athletes Leadership is not only about your own growth. Encourage others and help make the session a place where people feel comfortable contributing.
Remember

You do not need to be the loudest person in the room to be a leader. Some of the best leaders listen first, pay attention to what others need, and choose the right moment to contribute.

If You Cannot Attend Live

We understand that athletes have practices, competitions, school responsibilities, family commitments, and other demands on their schedules. If you cannot attend a live session, you will not fall behind.

Can't make a live session? Sessions are recorded and will be available afterward. If you miss one or simply want to replay a conversation, you can return to the recording when your schedule allows.

When watching a recording, try not to treat it like something you simply need to finish. Pause when a question is asked and think about how you would answer it. Consider what you would have contributed to the conversation if you had been there live.
